Day 1 Revolution and Going Strong

Well after meeting at the Molokai Airport at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, we arrived in Boston at 7:00AM on Thursday! The flights were pretty good. We got to Seattle and had a less than hour layover before we got on our plane to Boston. Saw some good sights in the Seattle Airport and even got to ride a subway.

When we got on the flight from Seattle to Boston the flight attendant was letting Jason know of his poor decisions in life like rooting for the 49ers.

Then it was time for our barely over four hour flight to Boston. That left not a lot of time for us to sleep. Too much excitement kept a few up. Eventually everybody did get some shut eye but not long before we were eating breakfast at the Hard Rock Cafe!

After filling up on eggs, bacon, potatoes, and french toast sticks, the kids put their drumming skills to the test. Nobody is joining Aerosmith, a Boston band, anytime soon.......

We finally started the tour! Starting off at a statue of Sam Adams. He was a leading Patriot back in the 1700's. He wanted the British out of the colonies. As you can see he is standing, with some friends, with his arms crossed telling the British to "get lost."
Then it was time to see where the Boston Massacre took place. It took place at the picture below. Our great tour guide, Ted, is telling us all about it. We lucked out having Ted as he is a great tour guide and is leading us very well. Very happy we have him.
Off to the Old Granary Burial Ground. Here many famous people have been buried. Below is Sam Adams and on the left the victims of the Boston Massacre. They are buried side by side. Below them is Paul Revere's grave. The little tiny one on the right of his is his original. After he got more famous they made him a bigger stone.

Since we just saw his grave it was time to go to Paul Revere's house! It is the oldest house in Boston dating back to 1680. Photos were not allowed inside but outside is just fine. His house is very interesting and when somebody is walking on the floor above you it creaks and makes noises only a very old home could make. Was a little claustrophobic.
It was from this home that Paul Revere left to start his famous ride that we know now. Off to Lexington and Concord he went!
Here we are sitting in the Old North Church. Old North Church is important to the story of Paul Revere and his Midnight Ride. It was from this steeple that lanterns were hung to warn the Patriots which way the British were coming. One if by land. Two if by sea.
All the boys on the trip attending church!
Here we are at the Paul Revere Statue. It is between his house and the Old North Church.
Time to fuel up at lunch before continuing our day.

After a quick twenty minute drive we arrived in Lexington. Standing with the Minuteman Statue the students are showing off their new clothes. It was a lot colder than it looks. In the low 50's. Many new sweatshirts were purchased to keep them bundled up. A nice mix of Boston, Celtics, and Harvard were purchased.
 Inside the Lexington Battle Museum.

Onto Concord. After a brief battle at Lexington the British moved onto Concord. Here we are at the Old North Bridge. Here, the Minutemen started chasing the British back to Boston. Many British wouldn't make it.

Driving back from Concord to Boston allowed the travelers to get some quick shut eye. After being on the go for 26 hours sometimes people get tired. This is what it looks like.....

One last trip and we were at Fenway Park! Home to the Boston Red Sox. Fenway Park is the oldest baseball stadium in the country. It opened the same week as the Titanic. The blue seats below are original and feel all the same I'd imagine a wooden seat that has been around since the Titanic would feel.

Here we are on top of the Green Monster in Left Field. It stands at 37' 2'' tall. Highest left field in the league. That's okay, it's also the shortest from home to left as well....

Here we are sitting inside the Press Box were the news media sits at every game and does their reporting.
 Group Photo with Everybody!

Dinner at Uno Pizza. We got salad, pizza, pasta, and a cookie. Pretty good food I'd say. After that it was time for a quick drive across the river on the Leonard Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge to get to our hotel for the night. We have another walking day ahead of us tomorrow. Then in the evening it is on to New York. We had a great first day. In the end, people were walking zombies though. Not a lot of sleep. Good thing we got back at a decent hour, 8, so we can get some sleep. Wake up call at 6:30! See ya then!

Nice, final drive over the Zakim Bridge to our hotel for the evening.
