Day three found us waking up in Brooklyn, New York. What a difference from Boston. First, was a little more chilly than we had been used to. Also, just a much faster paced city and building everywhere.
We started the day taking our first of three subway rides of the day. We met our awesome tour leader Robert at the hotel and off we went to breakfast at a local store called Cucina Liberta.
First subway ride
After breakfast we went to the southern tip of Manhattan to board a boat to go to the Statue of Liberty. We got on the first boat of the day at 8:30 and got seats up top. Real windy and pretty cold but we held tough.
Blustery day doesn't keep us inside

Being some of the first people at the Statue of Liberty is great. There is hardly anybody there so picture taking is not too bad. Beautiful skies and great kids makes for great pictures.

Guess who?!
Which is the real Lady Liberty?
After visiting Lady Liberty, we took a short boat ride next door to Ellis Island. Ellis Island is where immigrants that wanted to immigrate to the United States had to go from 1892 - 1954. It wasn't the only place to immigrate but the most popular. We got to learn why people moved away from their home countries and what happened when they got to Ellis Island. Heard some inspiring stories and some horrifying stories.
On Ellis Island learning what would happen to you if you were on a certain stairwell. The far left and right did better than the middle folks.
Learning about Ellis Island and answering trivia question from our great guide, Robert.

While waiting for our ferry to take us back to Manhattan, Robert taught Namaka a neat trick to mind read. It was very impressive to the others as they couldn't figure out how Namaka could identify an item that the others had already picked as their item.
Robert teaching Namaka how to read minds.
Namaka now reading minds and blowing the minds of his classmates!
Freedom Tour from Ellis Island
After Ellis Island we went back to Manhattan. Took a tour through Bowling Green Park and then saw the Wall Street Bull. It was extremely crowded by other tourists so it's hard to get a good shot of the bull. Then we had some lunch to recharge our batteries and back to touring! Then we saw the New York Stock Exchange with a quick lesson of what is going on inside that building and why it is important to everybody's lives. Also went and saw where George Washington was first inaugurated as President.

After Wall Street it was time to go see the 9/11 site. The walk from Wall Street to the 9/11 site has some sites to see. First there is a statue that survived the attacks. He now faces the site of the Twin Towers and represents the people that worked inside the building. He is known as the Double Check Statue.
With "Double Check" statue. He now faces the World Trade Center site and is a symbol of the people that worked in the Twin Towers.
Not the World Trade, but this building blends into the clouds
In memory of the fire fighters that died on 9/11
The 9/11 Memorial is pretty impressive. There are two waterfalls that are at the base of where the Twin Towers once stood. On the memorial are the names of the near 3,000 people that died that day. It also has the names of the six people that died in the 1993 bombing of the towers.

Reading the names of people who died in the South Tower and looking at the base of where it was. It is now a waterfall.

At the base of where the North Tower once stood
The new Freedom Tower. Also known as One World Trade. It is 1,776 feet tall. Can you figure out why?

North Tower site
The museum is very impressive and done well. It does a great job of showing items from the day that survived. There are even parts from the building where it was hit, parts of the planes that hit the towers, and personal items that were recovered. Also does a great job of talking about each flight and tower and what happened in each circumstance. Not just the Twin Towers but all four planes. There is no photography allowed in the main part of the museum so the photos that I have are where you were allowed to take pictures.

After dinner it was time to head to dinner. We are becoming subway pros at this point! Up to Little Italy and China Town for dinner. Before dinner though we had a chance to shop in China Town. If you notice you'll see a wardrobe change from the earlier pictures to the later ones! After shopping at bargain stores we had a nice three course meal of salad and bread, veal parmesan with spaghetti, and a nice pastry.

After dinner it was off to Broadway. You may notice the wardrobe change. We got to see Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theater. We scored and got great seats near the front. Aladdin is a great show. The man that plays the Genie won a Tony Award, the highest award a Broadway person can receive, for his performance. You could see why he earned that! Kids and adults loved the show. Still wondering how the magic carpet was flying......

After Aladdin it was time to walk out to Times Square and take our group photo. While walking to our spot it was crowded and people moving fast. The kids did a great job of staying together and are becoming New York pros. It was nice that our photographer was a few minutes out so we got to get pictures of all the kids in Times Square.

Was a long day with no sitting down and I'm sure tomorrow will be another busy day. Amazing what you can see in these cities. We are having a great time and look forward to Day 4 tomorrow in New York. See ya then.
